About our Organization

The purpose of the Friends organization is to provide support for the Washington County Public Library by providing materials and equipment, which would otherwise be unavailable, assisting the library staff in its programs, and making our citizens aware of the important role the public library plays in our community.

Welcomes all Friends to their monthly meeting
Thursday, March 7th, 2013,
from 12:00-1:00pm,
at the Blue Lake Community Center.

Everyone is encouraged to attend!

Chipola College oral interpretation students and instructor Carol Saunders will be visiting friends of the Library on Thursday, March 7th.  Students will be performing humorous, dramatic, and inspirational selections of prose and poetry. Student dramatizations will feature works from a variety of authors, commentators, storytellers and political leaders.

March is National Craft Month! Check out one of our cool crocheting or quirky quilting books today to help you get started on your next project.

Two exciting things are happening on Thursday, March 7, 2013.  We are having our regular luncheon meeting with Carol Saunders bringing some of her students from Chipola to entertain us.  They are very talented and Carol does a great job with them.

And, of course, the second happening is Game Night, which is scheduled for 6:00 – 9:00 P.M. at the Ag Center.  Come play a game with us, or just  come and enjoy the fellowship with others!  It is a moneymaker for us and is usually the biggest moneymaker of the year.  Help it to be that! Merle Jones and her committee are doing a great job of organizing this event.  The food is always fabulous!

The rest of our sign has come in, and the County personnel have been good to help us with it.
The Friends thank the County, City and all of the library personnel who have helped up with this project.

We are also thankful that the Ag Center came forward with a place for us to meet last meeting.  Not only that, the personnel had the tables set up and the floors spic and span – ready for our use!  Say a big thank you to them when we see them.  And, I say a big thank you for all of the Friends help in making my job pleasant.
Ruth McCrary
Make your Reservations this month by calling Ruth McCrary by noon on March 4th, 2013. Tai Chi for Health Class, 8 a.m., each Tuesday @ Your Library in Chipley.
Classes are free and open to the public.
People of all ages find tai chi to be a gentle, effective way to recharge and relax. Whether you are in your first decade of life or your tenth, you will derive benefits from practicing Tai Chi.
The effects of Tai Chi are well studied, particularly in the population of people over 60 years old. The cardio-respiratory benefits of tai chi revealed by studies in China include improved resting blood pressure, improved oxygen capacity, and improved overall capacity of the cardiovascular system as demonstrated during exercise testing.
Research has also demonstrated that Tai Chi practice improves strength, balance, and bone density.

Writers Group
Each month, a friendly bunch of writers, readers, and storytellers take it upon themselves to share a wealth of creativity. Writers who need support for their work, either through writing peer critiques, workshops or classes, or just encouragement, may wish to attend. Meetings are the first Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
