About our Organization

The purpose of the Friends organization is to provide support for the Washington County Public Library by providing materials and equipment, which would otherwise be unavailable, assisting the library staff in its programs, and making our citizens aware of the important role the public library plays in our community.

Welcomes all Friends to their monthly meeting Thursday,

January 3rd, 2013, from 12:00-1:00pm, at the Blue Lake Community Center.

Everyone is encouraged to attend!

Since we aren’t having a Board meeting, our next meeting is for all members to attend. It is our regular luncheon meeting which will be held Thursday, January 3rd at 12 o’clock noon at the Blue Lake facility. Also, our dear Beth, who has prepared our lunches for several years has had a heart attack and is at home mending. I have tried to contact her to find out how she is doing but have not been able to. If any of you know how she is doing, please let me know.

At our January meeting it has been suggested that we bring a bag lunch and just eat together as we have been doing but just bring our own meal. We will continue with the meeting as we usually do with a business meeting and program. Remember, our program is put on by the members. This is one of my favorites as different members share a book they have read and one they found highly interesting. So, keep that in mind for the meeting.

If anyone has an item for the newsletter, contact Zedra and she will put it in the newsletter for you. I look forward to seeing each of you and hearing about a book you have read.

Due to unforeseen circumstances concerning Boar Deli, January’s Friends meeting will not be catered. Friends are encouraged to bring their own lunch for this meeting until such a time that other catering arrangements can be made.

This January, let the “Book Nook” help you make and keep some New Year’s resolutions. Check out one of our books on health, finance, or travel.

Let 2013 be the year of change for you!

Tai Chi for Health Class,
8 a.m., each Tuesday @ Your Library in Chipley.

Classes are free and open to the public.

People of all ages find tai chi to be a gentle, effective way to recharge and relax. Whether you are in your first decade of life or your tenth, you will derive benefits from practicing Tai Chi.

The effects of Tai Chi are well studied, particularly in the population of people over 60 years old. The cardio-respiratory benefits of tai chi revealed by studies in China include improved resting blood pressure, improved oxygen capacity, and improved overall capacity of the cardiovascular system as demonstrated during exercise testing. Research has also demonstrated that Tai Chi practice improves strength, balance, and bone density.
