First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians, and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries -- school, public, academic and special - - participate.
National Library Workers Day, celebrated the Tuesday of National Library Week (April 13, 2010), is a day for library staff, users, administrators, and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers. Librarians, Friends, and trustees of libraries join in sponsoring local promotions.
The April 13th book discussion group selection will be "Habits of the Artichoke," by Fernando Sorrentino. In the story, the artichoke takes on a life of its own. And, in fact, it has brought some of its friends to help in the process. They like humans--too much, it seems. Beware, they could be coming to see you.
Join Robert at noon!
Help us save State Aid to Libraries. Yes, they have done it again. They have no money for libraries in the State Budget. Here are some contacts we need to call, write, or e-mail. Do this as soon as you can. They will be voting on this in March. Thank you for your help in the past, and I hope we can get our money back this time, as well. Linda
